AMARAVATI — Andhra Pradesh is entering a critical weather phase with the India Meteorological Department forecasting an above-normal number of heatwave days and elevated maximum temperatures throughout June.

The seasonal outlook indicates that the arrival of the southwest monsoon will bring lower-than-usual relief. Total precipitation across the state and the wider South Peninsular India is projected to fall below 94 percent of the Long Period Average.

Meteorological models show highly fragmented rainfall distribution across the state. While northern coastal areas including Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Kakinada expect normal rainfall, major agricultural belts will face significant deficits.

Experts at the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam stated that nearly 40 percent of the state will experience deficit rainfall, while 60 percent will see normal distribution, subject to a four percent operational variation margin.
