VIJAYAWADA: In a significant legal reform, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has introduced new electronic process rules titled the Andhra Pradesh Electronic Processes (Issue, Service and Execution) Rules, 2025.
The new rules enable courts across the state to serve summons and warrants directly through digital platforms such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, email, and other messaging applications.
The primary objective of these regulations is to modernise the delivery and execution of court notices, significantly speeding up judicial proceedings and eliminating systemic delays typically caused by manual delivery.
Under this new framework, courts can seamlessly issue notices to accused persons, witnesses, and victims via electronic platforms in addition to official email addresses.
This major shift aims to prevent common excuses used to stall legal proceedings, such as claims of not receiving the summons or being out of station.
To ensure accountability, police and court officials will now be required to submit screenshots or digital receipts showing successful delivery as proof to the court. For notifications sent via email, delivery logs generated by the service provider will serve as valid legal evidence of receipt.
