AMALAPURAM — A dedicated regional help desk established by the district administration has transformed how local authorities handle SOS calls and distress reports from overseas workers.
The Konaseema Centre for Migration, launched to address exploitative labor conditions abroad, has successfully registered 292 distress cases and resolved 287 of them within a span of fourteen months.
The specialized unit features a five-member core team comprising a nodal officer, coordinator, manager, and trained security personnel.
Local families who previously had to navigate complex bureaucratic channels at police headquarters or collectorate offices can now file direct complaints. The center directly engages with employment agents and coordinates with foreign embassies to expedite the repatriation process for trapped laborers.
