AMARAVATI — The Andhra Pradesh state government has finalized a comprehensive plan to transform its public transport fleet by deploying 3,000 electric buses in a phased rollout. Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy confirmed the target following a high-level infrastructure review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat.
The initial phase of the green transition will see 700 electric buses introduced into active service within the next two months. To support this deployment, dedicated electric vehicle charging infrastructure is being fast-tracked across six major transport depots.
Additionally, the government has finalized the procurement of 500 electric buses alongside an allocation of 300 buses under the regional Mahavas allocation, establishing a robust pipeline for the state's clean energy goals.
The incoming fleet will cater to diverse passenger requirements, extending from rural connectivity initiatives to premium inter-city express corridors. To maximize connectivity with upcoming infrastructure, the corporation will deploy 40 specialized buses to service the under-construction Bhogapuram International Airport from Vijayawada.
