AMARAVATI — The Andhra Pradesh government has successfully resolved a 120-year-old land dispute in Vatticherukuru village of Guntur district.
By removing the entire residential area from the prohibited list under Section 22A of the Registration Act, the administration has provided legal property rights to 515 families, impacting a local population of nearly 5,000 residents.
Revenue Department Special Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad officially issued orders to delete Survey Numbers 241-3 and 241-5, which cover 25.37 acres of the village habitation, from the restricted registry.
The administrative gridlock began in 1906 when the land was mistakenly classified as a village water tank, triggering strict registration blocks that have remained active since 1908.
For over a century, local families were unable to sell their properties, transfer ownership, or secure bank loans against their homes. This occurred despite the community paying municipal taxes since the gram panchayat was established in 1931.
A comprehensive resurvey conducted in 2023 finally confirmed that the disputed land houses over five hundred homes alongside critical public infrastructure, including a hospital, a library, roads, and the local panchayat office.
