ONGOLE — The Andhra Pradesh State Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Trust (HDPT) will launch a massive ecological protection campaign named "Gundlakamma Haritha Haara Yagnam" on June 5.
Scheduled to coincide with World Environment Day, this environmental initiative involves planting thousands of sacred and medicinal trees along both banks of the Gundlakamma river to prevent soil erosion and improve the local ecosystem.
The plantation drive will span the entire 280-kilometer trajectory of the Gundlakamma river, which originates in the Nallamala Hills near Brahmeswaram in Nandyal district, traverses key regions including Cumbum, Markapuram, Addanki, and Ongole, before merging into the Bay of Bengal at Gundayapalem.
According to HDPT Chairman Dasari Srinivasulu, the environmental project will be executed simultaneously across seven assembly constituencies located within the river basin.
