AMARAVATI — Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that Andhra Pradesh stands to lose significant political representation if the upcoming national delimitation exercise relies strictly on the 2011 Census or recent population statistics.
Speaking during an informal media interaction, Naidu argued that a conventional population-based restructuring would unfairly disadvantage southern states that successfully implemented family planning and population control measures over the past decades.
The Chief Minister proposed an alternative framework to protect the state's political footprint. He suggested that the total number of legislative seats should be increased by 50 percent across the board.
According to Naidu, this expansion would offset potential losses in relative representation while creating a substantial pool of new seats that could be directly allocated to fulfill the mandated 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
