AMARAVATI — The Prakasam district administration has rescued 10 members of three tribal families from bonded labour in Alluru village within the Kothapatnam mandal. The workers had been trapped in forced labour for 11 years at a local subabul wood plantation.
District Collector P Raja Babu officially freed the families by distributing Bonded Labour Relief Certificates during a community outreach programme at P Gudipadu village.
Local authorities revealed that the families became trapped after borrowing 20,000 rupees from a farmer based in Talluru mandal more than a decade ago.
The landlord used ongoing threats to force them into agricultural labour without proper wages to clear the debt. The situation came to light when tribal community leaders discovered the exploitation and alerted district officials, triggering an immediate rescue operation.
