ONGOLE: In an effort to enhance road safety and curb fatal two-wheeler accidents, the Bapatla district police officially rolled out a strict "No Helmet, No Fuel" campaign on an experimental basis.
The enforcement drive commenced across four major police station jurisdictions—Bapatla Town, Bapatla Rural, Vedullapalli, and Karlapalem.
The initiative seeks to link compliance with protective gear directly to daily fuel accessibility to promote discipline among motorists.
Announcing the launch of the campaign, Bapatla District Superintendent of Police (SP) B. Uma Maheswar stated that wearing a protective helmet should be approached as a vital personal responsibility rather than a legal burden.
He observed that a major portion of fatal road accidents in the region involve two-wheeler operators who are not wearing helmets.
To counter this, Station House Officers and on-ground personnel have been systematically stationed at various fuel outlets to monitor compliance with the assistance of petrol pump managements.
