ANANTAPUR: In a major crackdown against illegal drug trafficking, the Anantapur city police successfully busted an organized ganja supply network, resulting in the arrest of 14 individuals.
During a series of strategic and coordinated raids conducted across various parts of the city, police recovered and seized nearly 7 kg of contraband.
Addressing a press conference, Anantapur Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh detailed that the syndicate had established a widespread local distribution network.
The gang explicitly targeted regular drug users and local youth by dividing the contraband into small, retail-friendly packets. Investigators identified Shikari Suresh, a resident of NTR Colony, as the primary mastermind steering the operations.
According to the police, Suresh routinely sourced the ganja from unidentified suppliers operating near the Guntakal Junction railway station, purchasing it at approximately ₹10,000 per kilogram.
The illegal contraband was then smuggled into Anantapur with the assistance of four repeat offenders. Once inside the city, it was divided into smaller packets and distributed via a network of local peddlers stationed across multiple urban neighborhoods.
