AMARAVATI — The Union government will actively support Andhra Pradesh to become a premier national hub for textiles and handlooms. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh announced the plan on Friday during an official tour of the state.
The central strategy focuses on increasing cotton productivity, attracting high-tech manufacturing units, and offering financial support through the Production Linked Incentive scheme.
During his visit to a private textile facility at the Mallavalli Industrial Park in Krishna district, the Union Minister met with regional state officials and industry leaders.
State Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S. Savitha joined the high-level inspection. Discussions centered on creating infrastructure for silk and synthetic textile manufacturing to diversify the regional economy.
The Union Minister confirmed he will meet with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to draft a comprehensive strategy for the sector. Central officials plan to introduce better seed policies and advanced farming techniques to maximize cotton yield.
The Union government has already approved one handloom cluster for the state and is currently evaluating a second proposal to support traditional weavers.
