VISAKHAPATNAM: In a high-level coordination meeting held to assess the progression of the Southwest Monsoon, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra conducted a comprehensive review of the seasonal rainfall outlook and weather preparedness across various states.

The review focused on equipping regional meteorological centers and state administrative machineries with advanced forecasting datasets to proactively tackle extreme weather anomalies, localized flooding, and agricultural challenges.

During the extensive briefing, Dr. Mohapatra highlighted that while the initial advancement of the monsoon has brought relief to several heatwave-stricken sub-divisions, weather systems are becoming increasingly volatile due to fluctuating global climate patterns.

To navigate this unpredictability, the IMD chief instructed regional meteorologists to leverage satellite-based predictive models and supply real-time, highly localized climate reports to disaster mitigation units. He stressed that early, hyper-local alerts are essential to safeguard rural and urban populations alike.
