AMARAVATI — The state administration commenced the phased release of Godavari water from the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram on Sunday, initiating agricultural operations for the upcoming kharif season.
The initial deployment aims to supply irrigation to 2.63 lakh acres of farmland across the extensive Godavari Delta region.
The strategy behind advancing the water schedule by nearly a month involves encouraging early transplantation of crops.
State officials noted that achieving an early harvest safeguards paddy fields from devastating late-season tropical cyclones, which traditionally disrupt coastal farming between October and November.
The advanced release also addresses potential water conservation needs tied to unpredictable southwest monsoon patterns.
