NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to examine a plea challenging a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) policy that mandates the study of three languages, including at least two native Indian languages, for Class 9 students starting from July 1.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi issued formal notices to the Centre, the CBSE, and the NCERT, seeking comprehensive replies within two weeks.
The apex court also directed Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati to submit a detailed report regarding the logistical preparedness of the CBSE to implement this decision, scheduling the next hearing for the second week of July. The court, however, refused to pass any interim stay order on the policy.
