AMARAVATI — The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a massive integrated pilgrim township at the Alipiri foothills in Tirupati.

The project aims to streamline the massive influx of devotees visiting the Tirumala temple. Municipal Administration and Urban Development authorities cleared the detailed project report on Saturday to address the chronic infrastructure shortage at the base of the hills.

The planned transit hub will feature budget accommodation, a multi-level vehicle parking facility, and commercial spaces.

Officials stated that the facility is designed to handle over twenty thousand transit passengers daily. It will serve as a single-point node for pilgrims before they begin their journey up the hills, reducing traffic congestion inside Tirupati city.

The local administration will execute the township project through a public-private partnership model. Investors will build and operate the commercial zones, while the state government retains control over civic amenities and regulatory oversight.

Bidding for the construction contracts is scheduled to open next month, with a strict two-year completion timeline.
