AMARAVATI — Infrastructure planners in Vijayawada have proposed a second ghat road leading to the famous Kanaka Durga temple atop the Indraleeladri hill.

The project aims to resolve decades of traffic gridlock along the existing single arterial route. The district administration expects the new project to streamline vehicular movement for millions of devotees who visit the hill shrine every year.

The proposed five-kilometer road will start near the Kummaripalem junction and ascend the rear side of the hill to connect directly with the temple complex.

Currently, both upward and downward traffic share a single narrow ghat road. This layout causes severe bottlenecks during major religious festivals like Dasara, when daily footfalls cross several hundred thousand.

Under the new plan, the existing route will serve exclusively for uphill traffic, while the new road will handle descending vehicles.
