AMARAVATI — The Andhra Pradesh health department has initiated a major overhaul of its human resource guidelines to modernize the state's healthcare workforce.

Speaking at a specialized medical workshop on Friday, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare G Veerapandian stated that existing administrative protocols face critical implementation challenges. The systemic review aims to realign staffing structures with modern medical demands rather than outdated administrative categories.

The current system relies heavily on specialized worker classifications created decades ago for specific diseases like leprosy. Although the public health threat of these specific diseases has drastically declined, the legacy bureaucratic structures remain completely unchanged.

State administrators noted that the crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted severe gaps in active medical personnel, necessitating an immediate shift toward a flexible and rationalized staffing network.
