AMARAVATI — The Andhra Pradesh health department has initiated mandatory medical screening for Ebola virus disease at Tirupati International Airport in Renigunta.
The preventive protocol targets all incoming international travelers following a standard directive issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to step up vigil against the viral infection.
District medical authorities held an emergency coordination meeting at the airport on Saturday to establish an around-the-clock health desk.
A dedicated medical team comprising doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff will monitor passengers using thermal scanners. Any traveler showing symptoms like high fever, severe headache, or muscle pain will undergo immediate isolation.
The airport administration has designated a specialized isolation ward on the premises to temporarily hold suspected cases. Individuals requiring advanced medical attention will be shifted via dedicated ambulances to the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) or the Government General Hospital in Tirupati.
Public health teams are also tracking transit passengers arriving from regions currently experiencing active viral outbreaks.
