CHITTOOR — Authorities dismantled a major interstate network running an illegal prenatal gender-determination racket during a surprise operation in Chittoor district on Sunday.
A joint task force comprising local police and Health Department officials raided an under-construction building near Chandrasekharapuram village in Bangarupalyam mandal, arresting four key operators.
The syndicate allegedly targeted vulnerable pregnant women from neighboring states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana. Investigators revealed that the operators utilized portable diagnostic equipment to bypass strict medical regulations.
At the time of the raid, officials identified at least 14 victims who had been brought to the secluded facility for unlawful scans.
Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi stated that the swift intervention prevented further violations of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.
Law enforcement personnel seized advanced portable ultrasound machines, unauthorized medical supplies, and mobile phones used to coordinate with interstate agents who ferried clients across borders.
