AMARAVATI — High pollution levels in the Godavari river have triggered a severe public health crisis across several riverside villages in West Godavari district. Untreated municipal sewage, agricultural runoff, and industrial effluents continue to drain into the river water source.

Local medical clinics report a sharp rise in waterborne diseases, including gastroenteritis, skin allergies, and typhoid among the local population.

The contamination affects multiple major drinking water drawing points that supply drinking water to over fifty thousand residents.

Tests conducted by local environmental groups indicate that dissolved oxygen levels have dropped significantly, while the presence of harmful coliform bacteria has breached safe limits.

Residents state that the supplied water frequently appears turbid and emits a foul odor.
