JOHANNESBURG: India has sent emergency pharmaceutical supplies to support global efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) announced.

The consignment, donated generously by the government and people of India, was received in Uganda by the Africa CDC’s Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre.

According to the continental public health agency, the emergency supplies include essential diagnostics, therapeutics, infection prevention and control materials, as well as case management support.

These resources will be systematically deployed to the severely affected communities in eastern DR Congo.

“Africa CDC welcomes the arrival of emergency pharmaceutical supplies generously donated by the Government and people of India to support the ongoing response to the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the DRC,” the agency stated, extending gratitude to India for its continued commitment to protecting lives and advancing health security across the African continent.
