AMARAVATI — Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is set to secure a historic milestone after being named in Mexico’s 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The 40-year-old veteran, who made his tournament debut two decades ago in Germany, will become the first Mexican player to feature in six World Cup editions.
Head coach Javier Aguirre chose to balance the squad by combining Ochoa’s extensive international experience with a wave of emerging young talent.
Aguirre’s selection underscores a distinct youth movement alongside veteran mainstays like captain Edson Alvarez and veteran forward Raul Jimenez.
The squad features 17-year-old midfielder Gilberto Mora, who is on track to become the youngest player ever to represent Mexico at a World Cup.
The roster also includes young dual nationals Obed Vargas and Brian Gutierrez, alongside naturalised midfielders Alvaro Fidalgo and Julian Quinones.
