BEIRUT: An Israeli airstrike on a village in eastern Lebanon killed 12 people, state media reported on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). The escalation comes as an Israeli official confirmed that the military has mobilized additional troops to Lebanon.
According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the devastating strike hit the village of Mashghara, located in the Bekaa Valley, late Monday (May 25).
Rescue workers stated that a dozen bodies were pulled out from the rubble following an intense wave of overnight strikes targeting broad swaths of southern and eastern Lebanon.
The attack followed a video statement posted on social media by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, in which he announced that he had authorized more intensive strikes targeting the Hezbollah militant group across Lebanon.
“What this requires of us now is to increase the blows, to increase the intensity. We will smite them hip and thigh,” Netanyahu stated.
